Govinda: 1 ; Beth's ability to resist Govinda: 0

From Gair Kanooni via Antarra's Ramblings.

Just yesterday I was showing a non-Bolly friend "Om Shanti Om" from Karz and basking in the awesomeness of its giant record player and showing her "24x7 I Think of You" and enjoying its clock-hands dance moves and thinking about rewatching Amar Akbar Anthony and someone told me about finding lots of references to bicycles in archives in Delhi and I was talking about London! This song was meant to be. Also, I want that dress.

I can resist Govinda. In fact, I tend to run screaming from Govinda.

If Michael Jackson only knew the extent of his legacy in Indian cinema. Well, maybe he does.

I've liked what little I've seen of Govinda! I'm going to wait till after Partner to make the final call, though.
I was going to label this as part of my semi-regular ongoing investigation "What Is With Govinda?" but just from reading this song described in words I knew I had to see it, and it is so much crazier and more fun than I thought it would be. But generally I am not a particular Govinda fan (except in Salaam-e-Ishq). Ajanbi, I'll look forward to reading your thoughts on Partner. I thought he was the best thing in it, but that's not saying a whole lot.

Which dress? The one Govinda is wearing, the one Kimi is wearing or the one the supposed-to-be(?)-scary backup artist is wearing? :D

For sheer lyrical craziness, have you seen "Ande ka funda"?

I'm with memsaab on resisting Govinda. In fact, Govinda movies are on the top of my movie-torture list!

I have to say, I'm fond of Govinda, for no obvious or logical reason. Fortunately, this clip gives me one! (Although I don't think I have the guts to follow him for a lifetime).

The real question is why I am so much fonder of dumb Michael Jackson knock-offs in Hindi films than I ever was of Michael Jackson. Probably sheer perversity.

I am always charmed by Govinda's low-brow appeal...

And I am loving his post-Bhagam Bhag comedy avatar!

I'm twofold on Govinda--I hate everything I've seen him in made in the 90s (which, truthfully, hasn't been much. But that's why--I have no desire to see more!)...but loved his bit in "Salaam-E-Ishq"...Though I've seen trailers for some romantic films starring Govinda that I immediately marked on my "avoid yaar" list.

But then again, can't resist Govinda on the dancefloor.

As for "Partner"..i agree he was the best thing about it. Also agree that isn't saying much! I still laugh just thinking about the part where he's tackled at the airport, though--"Because of terrorist"! Ahh, the look on his face...

I watched the song without sound. It's hilarious that way, with the subtitles.

I LOVE Govinda's moves.
Amey - :) Actually there are TWO that I like. First, the blue one with giant yellow bow in front with matching hat (appearing first at about :32 in front of the clock tower) - I would look awful in it, but that's hardly the point here - and the other one is the rather grander number that the woman is putting on in the beginning and makes a grand entrance at 1:54.

And no, I haven't seen that - I will look!

bollyviewer - Ah yes, the eeeeevil applications of Govinda!

Anarchivst - Logic is not necessary.

I should probably revisit some Michael Jackson clips now that I've seen more "tributes" to his style. I'd probably be more appreciative.

FG - I keep blocking out Bhagam Bhag. But I'm willing to give him a few more tries.

Nida - The 90s are such a dark age, no? At least before KKHH (and yes, I include DDLJ in that, because I hate it).

He might be the perfect candidate for Best Youtube-the-Song-Clips-Only Award.

Banno - He really is amazing to watch dance.

Banno has reminded me that my current research question is who among previous generations of stars - I'm thinking mostly of the 50s, 60s, and 70s - was considered the best dancers? For the men in particular it's hard for me to figure out because they so often don't do much. Except Shammi, I can hear Memsaab say. Yes, except Shammi.

Now you know that we Indians are very artistic and innovative bunch. That actress is Kimi Katkar and she is the primary reason, I started noticing girls in my school ;)

I am actually quite fond of some of Govinda's comedies. Its a lot of fun if u r not trying to critically look at it and just enjoying the ride. His Deewana-mastana was a lot of fun. Watch that one. you will enjoy. There is Juhi in it.
