superstar overload: Devdas and Mohabbatein

Woah - two Shahrukh and Aishwarya movies in one weekend. Aren't they lovely together! The appeal of SRK is still not entirely clear to me, but after seeing these movies I definitely like him more when he's the "good-hearted but subdued due to personal tragedy" type (also seen in Kal Ho Naa Ho and, sort of, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai). Plus, as we all know, I like my men preppy, so seeing him in chinos and a sweater over his shoulders with little glasses was right up my alley. Although I think in a few scenes he's already wearing a sweater, so the draped one is even more silly. While Devdas certainly was gorgeous, the story was far too epic for my taste - self-destruction just is not enjoyable - although it was engaging in the Greek tragedy type of way.

I like the matter-of-fact way you dismissed this excuse for a movie, when (apparently) millions went gaga over it. Surprising that there are no comments after all these years.

Too many movies, too little time.
:) Yeah, sometimes it's fortunate people don't go back to my very earliest posts. I would consider re-watching Devdas now that I know much more about Indian films, if just to see how pretty it is, but I have grown weary with and wary of Bhansali since then.
